Cybersecurity in the Digital Age: A Collective Responsibility
In an era of rapid technological transformation, cybersecurity has become more than just a technical issue — it’s a fundamental societal concern. On May 15 2025 in Zagreb we have hosted the fourth edition of the Alert Cybersecurity Conference, a leading regional platform dedicated to digital security. The event was organized by ASEE, with support from partners VISA and Darwinium.
The conference gathered a wide range of cybersecurity experts from Croatia and abroad, including representatives of financial institutions, telecoms, regulatory bodies, public administration, and technology companies. Through keynote speeches and panel discussions, the event tackled some of the most urgent and complex security challenges facing today’s digital world.
Spotlight on AI, Regulation, and Generational Change
This year’s Alert Conference focused on three critical themes shaping the future of cybersecurity:
- Emerging regulations (NIS2 and DORA) – These bring new demands and responsibilities for organizations that aim to remain compliant and cyber-resilient.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) – A transformative tool that brings innovation but also presents serious risks, especially when leveraged in advanced cyberattacks.
- Generational shifts – A new wave of users expects security that is both seamless and highly resistant to modern threats.
The event highlighted the importance of cross-sector cooperation to maintain trust and safety in an increasingly digital society.
Cross-Industry Knowledge Exchange
Prominent speakers included Roshan Sherifudeen (RPC), Martina Dragičević (A1 Croatia), Katarzyna Pawlowicz and Diana Gontar (VISA), Mario Kozina (Croatian National Bank), Ed Whitehead (Darwinium), Milan Parat (Croatian Banking Association), Özben Miçooğulları (Microsoft), Tomislav Vazdar (Riskoria), and Davor Aničić (Velebit AI). Experts from ASEE shared insights from working with the most security-sensitive and heavily regulated industries.
The conference was established with the goal of creating a space for open dialogue on key security topics, connecting all relevant stakeholders — from regulators and enterprises to government institutions and technology providers.
“Cybersecurity is no longer a niche concern — it’s the foundation of every aspect of our digital lives,”
said Viktor Olujić, Management Board Member at ASEE Croatia.
“At this year’s conference, we opened discussions on the possibilities and risks AI brings — particularly its use in sophisticated attacks — and emphasized the need to raise awareness at every level, from boards to end-users. We also addressed regulatory frameworks like NIS2 and DORA, and the importance of understanding how to implement them. Additionally, generational change is pushing us toward solutions that are simpler yet far more resilient.”

Moving Forward: Stronger Together
The main conclusion of Alert 2025 is clear: Cybersecurity can only be strengthened through collective effort. Events like Alert are essential in enabling open knowledge exchange, promoting cooperation, and building a more resilient digital society.
